Abstract: As a systematic program, fostering a strong consciousness of community for the Chinese nation is the ideological foundation for promoting exchanges, interactions, and integration among all ethnic groups. All the ethnic groups of Guizhou Province possess a rich historical legacy in terms of mutual respect, mutual trust, mutual appreciation, mutual tolerance and mutual assistance, demonstrating a clear psychological orientation toward the consciousness of community for the Chinese nation. By formulating as the practical foundation Implementation Plan for Fostering a Consciousness of Community for the Chinese Nation in Guizhou Province, Guizhou has set out to build itself into a model province in six aspects: 1) ideological education; 2) high-quality development in the western provinces of minority ethnic groups; 3) national unity, mutual assistance and harmony; 4) prosperity and development of cultures of minority ethnic groups; 5) inter-connection among all ethnic groups; and 6) modernization of governance of ethnic affairs. Guizhou's proven approach–anchoring the direction of development through policy guidance, consolidating the ideological foundation through publicity efforts, establishing the material foundation through developmental support, and securing the public foundation by ensuring basic living standards–represents successful experience in fostering a strong consciousness of community for the Chinese nation. This also holds enlightening significance for other regions.
