Abstract: Calligraphy education for the Yuan emperors was a supplement to their imperial court education called jingyan, a formerly subordinate education form in language, literature and history that later became independent. This was especially true when two dedicated organs - Kuizhang Ge and Xuanwen Ge - were established to mark the completion of the Yuan imperial calligraphy education system. While sinicizing themselves, the Mongolian rulers aimed at utilizing the political function of calligraphy to consolidate their authority.
