Abstract: In order to establish a comprehensive evaluation system for course ideological and political education competence of college physical education (PE) teachers, this study conducted a comprehensive assessment of the current course ideological and political education competence of college PE teachers. Through literature review and policy text analysis, a competence evaluation system was constructed that covered 5 dimensions (knowledge acquisition, ideological and political education ability, self-image, personality traits, work motivation) with 20 secondary indicators. Based on this, the structural equation model was used to propose hypotheses and verify the evaluation system. The results showed that the hypotheses of the structural equation model constructed were valid and the weights of the evaluation indicators were calculated through standardized path coefficients. To ensure that the evaluation was more objective and scientific, the object-element extension model was introduced to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the competence. The case study indicated that the rating of the course ideological and political education competence of PE teachers reached level 4. From the changes in the characteristic values of the 5 dimensions, it can be seen that differences in course ideological and political education competence exist among college PE teachers across genders, educational backgrounds, ages and professional titles. Based on the comprehensive evaluation results and the performance of each indicator of different characteristics, specific improvement strategies–such as “the activation plan for young teachers’ course ideological and political education ability” and “the community for mentoring from outstanding teachers”–are proposed to provide reference for the construction of course ideological and political education in college physical education.
