Abstract: Gansu Province has an outstanding poetry tradition due to its diverse topographical features, diverse cultural backgrounds and remote geographical location that enable its poetry to retain distinctive regional and local characteristics, and thus accumulating the power of poetry creation. The brand-name “Eight Poetic Horses” emerge as a strong west wind to the increasingly urbanized and sluggish national poetry world, attracting attention from the whole literary world of China. Since 2012 when Gansu's first group of “Eight Best Poetic Horses” were elected, four consecutive elections have been organized. With the emergence of various new media in the new century, the WeChat public platform in 2011 in particular, the local governments have been making great efforts to support and develop Gansu’s poetry. Examining the status quo of Gansu poetry in recent years, we find that there are also some problems worthy of our reflection in the development of Gansu’s poetry.
