Abstract: The identity of the Chinese nation based on the national level has a significant impact on people's political support. Although there has been a wealth of research on the influencing factors of political support, few studies have linked the identity of the Chinese nation with Ethnic Inter-Embedding to explore the impact on political support. This study empirically examines the effects of Chinese ethnic identity and ethnic interlocking on people's political support using survey data from the research group in Guizhou and Yunnan provinces. The correlation results show that identity of the Chinese nation and Ethnic Inter-Embedding have a highly significant positive effect on people's political support. Further analyses reveal that ethnic interlocking plays a mediating role between the identity of the Chinese nation and popular political support, and that Ethnic Inter-Embedding has a stronger influence on popular political support than the identity of the Chinese nation. To carry out ethnic work in China, we should, therefore, further strengthen the equality and unity of ethnic groups, pay attention to social justice, and promote the interaction, communication and integration of ethnic groups, so as to better enhance the political support of the people in China.

Key words: identity of the Chinese nation, Ethnic Inter-Embedding, political support, community for the Chinese nation
