Abstract: This paper discusses the relationship between family development and life satisfaction of farmers and herdsmen on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau based on the data of a survey conducted in Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The study found that life satisfaction of farmers and herdsmen was at a high level on the whole. The families of farmers and herdsmen, while maintaining a traditionally large family size, are at a relatively high level in terms of material base, population quality and social capital. The relationship between their family development and life satisfaction is close. The better the family material foundation, the better the health status of family members, the more direct family support available to individuals and interactive support between family and community neighbors, the higher their individual life satisfaction. Family development plays a positive role in improving life satisfaction of farmers and herdsmen. In the context of promoting common prosperity and rural revitalization, we should not only continue improving people's livelihood in the agricultural and pastoral areas on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, but also work together to promote family development, so that families can play their due and important role in satisfying the needs of farmers and herdsmen for a better life.
