The Influence of Time Management Tendency on Procrastination Behavior among the Government-sponsored Normal University Students of Yunnan Province— The Mediating Role of Self-control Ability

Abstract: To analyze the relationship among time management tendency, self-control ability and procrastination behavior of the government-sponsored normal university students of Yunnan Province, this study investigated data collected from 349 such students by using the Time Management Tendency Scale, the Self-control Scale and the General Procrastination Scale. The results showed that 1) the time management tendency and self-control ability of the government-sponsored normal students in Yunnan were at a medium to high level, i.e. moderate procrastination existed; 2) there were significant differences in self-control ability and procrastination behavior among students with different academic rankings; 3) there was a positive correlation between time management tendency and self-control ability but a significant negative correlation between time management tendency, self-control ability and procrastination behavior; and 4) time management tendency and self-control ability could negatively predict procrastination behavior, and self-control ability played a partial mediating role in this process.
