Abstract: Through the research on pumpkin distant hybrid breeding, excellent new materials can be provided for removing the bad selection, retaining the good, purifying the gene, and cultivating the pumpkin germplasm resources with stronger offspring. In central and southern Yunnan, a single plant with early and more female flowering was selected from a number of new Indian pumpkin materials and hybridized with Chinese pumpkins to obtain a new generation of hybrid pumpkin varieties with good F1 performance for production applications. The results of the study showed that the offspring pumpkin varieties obtained through purified distant genetic recombination have excellent combinations in performances such as low temperature tolerance, strong growth potential, disease resistance, early maturity, high quality, high yield, and easier for storage and transportation. After multiple generations of gene purification, the advantage of distant hybridization with the new technology becomes obvious. Although the breeding takes a longer time, it can effectively improve the social and economic value of pumpkin F1.
