Abstract: Different from depicting the “dark side” of parent-child relationship in previous present and contemporary literature, Lu Wenbin builds a harmonious parent-child relationship in his fifth novel, Deep Sea Silence. Jiang Zhiyue, the mother, respects the individual uniqueness of her children Hai Tong and Hai Xin and regards them as equal and independent individuals. Hai Tong, in return, stimulates his father Cong Zhi’s ability to love and inspires his mother Jiang Zhiyue to learn to love herself. At a time characterized by family problems of increasing prominence, the author builds in his new work a positive path to the modern and harmonious parent-child relationship with love and freedom. Based on the image of Jiang Zhiyue the mother, this paper discusses the author’s construction of a harmonious parent-child relationship from three aspects: respect, separation, growth and self-love.

Key words: Deep Sea Silence, respect, separation, growth and self-love
