Zhi Shun Zhen Jiang Zhi in the Yuan Dynasty and Food Culture in Zhenjiang

Abstract: Zhi Shun Zhen Jiang Zhi, or Annals of Zhenjiang, is one of the few surviving local chronicles of the Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368). Having 21 volumes with vast content, the book is a very valuable document for study of the history of Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province. Focusing on customs and population in the third volume and the local products in the fourth, this article mainly analyzes and interprets the food-related content of Zhenjiang in the Yuan Dynasty in terms of ethnicity and religious culture. The chronicle textual research in the book fully demonstrates many social aspects of Zhenjiang in the Yuan Dynasty, such as local products, folk customs, population, and culture.
