An Elementary Study on “Aspect” as a Grammatical Category of Verbs of the Wanbi Dai Language

Abstract: “Aspect” of verbs refers to “the state of actions and events in a certain time progress.” Verbs of the Wanbi Dai language have six aspects, namely the starting aspect, the progressive aspect, the continuous aspect, the experience aspect, the perfect aspect and the future aspect, whose markers are basically weakened verbs except for that of the experience aspect. The paper is a presentation of the category of aspect of the Wanbi Dai language and an analysis of origin of its specific markers from the perspective of grammaticalization.
