Abstract: More than an outstanding statesman, Wang Yangming (1472-1529) was a great thinker whose study of the heart, as was generally referred to, or the study of the mind to be exact, opened up an era in the history of philosophy of China. In addition, his success in cracking mass commotion in Jiangxi, the revolt of Prince Ning and later governance of the rural areas accomplished his political ambition concerning welfare of individual, family, state and even the whole nation of a traditional Chinese intellectual. When governing Tingzhang in modern south Jiangxi Province, he implemented a series of rural governance measures that had positive impact on alleviating social contradictions, purifying local folk customs and reconstructing rural order. These measures have lasting influence on future rural governance practices.
