Abstract: Based on the monthly precipitation data, DEM elevation data and socio-economic data of counties and cities in Chuxiong Prefecture from 1989 to 2018, the paper first presents the four major influencing factors of drought disaster: risk of disaster causing factor, vulnerability of pregnancy factor, vulnerability of disaster bearing body and ability of disaster prevention and reduction, then proceeds to analyze thirteen secondary indexes of natural factors and human factors were selected to construct the risk assessment system of drought disaster in Chuxiong Prefecture, combining the Drought Disaster Risk Assessment Model to Evaluate the Drought Disaster in Chuxiong Prefecture. The results showed the risk factor of drought disaster is low in the east and high in the south and the north in Chuxiong Prefecture. The distribution of vulnerability of pregnant factors increased from the south to the north. The distribution of vulnerability of disaster bearing body increases from the northwest to the southeast. The distribution law of disaster prevention and reduction ability shows that it decreases to the four sides from the center – Chuxiong City. The comprehensive risk was higher in the north and the south and lower in the central and eastern parts.
