Abstract: The metaverse, as a new artistic medium, is an inevitable product of the development of digital humanities technology. With its free and open virtual reality space, new perception methods and immersive interactive experience, it compresses the living space of traditional literature. At the same time, AI writing under digital humanities technology has triggered the reconstruction of literary subjects through human-machine cooperation, which has greatly affected the survival environment of literature and, to some extent, influenced the fate of literature. Behind the development of digital humanities technology exists not only the integration of humanities and technology, but also their sharp conflicts. Observing the new changes in literature after the “end of literature theory” provides an important reference frame for us to reflect on the literary survival in the metaverse era, which has profound practical considerations for the development of future literature.

Key words: digital humanities, metaverse, artificial intelligence (AI), end of literature
