Abstract: The most valuable experience National Southwest Associated University (NSAU, 1938-46) ever gained was the education for the youth to carry on the tradition of patriotism and carry out the struggle spirit characterized by fearlessness facing sacrifice. As the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) drew to its end, the Chinese government launched the motion to “recruit 100,000 young soldiers to defend every inch of land of our motherland with our blood.” In Kunming, a city in the rear, Lu Shaohua and countless other young students of NSAU, inspired by the spirit of the time of “saving and serving our motherland through education,” answered to the conscription call for war interpreters, joined the army, and went to the front of the Allied China-Myanmar-India War Zone. Work of the interpreters helped cooperation among different parties of the Allied forces in combats and their bravery became a brilliant chapter in the history of higher education, the history of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the history of the youth movement, leaving to us valuable historical and cultural resources. To flee from the atrocities of the Japanese invaders, Lu Baohua, Lu Shaohua’s mother and a famous writer, wrote a number of touching poems. Her works, too, provide lively examples to demonstrate the spirit of the Chinese shown in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

Key words: National Southwest Associated University (NSAU, 1938-46), saving the country through education, serving the country through education, front of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Lu Shaohua, Lu Baohua
