Abstract: During the Long March through Yunnan, the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army (the “Red Army”) accurately grasped the complex political relations and social structures of the border ethnic regions and creatively employed dissemination slogans as a medium to effectively advance theoretical publicity and mass mobilization. Taking as research object the dissemination slogans left behind by the Red Army during its Long March through Yunnan, this paper first conducts an analysis from three dimensions: modes of spatial presentation, strategies of discourse transformation and functions of political integration. Based on this and centering around three elements-narrative structure, emotional logic and discursive resources-it proceeds to analyze the mechanism through which the dissemination discourse of the CPC took effect in border ethnic regions from its generation to its implementation: facilitating the transformation of abstract theory into the conscious practice of the masses, and thereby promoting ethnic unity through dissemination and mobilization. This historical practice, by profoundly revealing the dialectical unity of “enhancing commonality” and “respecting difference” embodied in the dissemination work of the CPC in the ethnic regions as well as the progressive logic of “trust-identification-governance,” provides historical wisdom and a practical paradigm worthy of reference for forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation in the new era and for embarking on the Long March of the new era.
