Abstract: In Chinese context, meanings of “existence form” can include instant static form of things as well as their possible dynamic development, and can thus reflect their comprehensive characteristics. Based on existence forms, myths can be classified into written myths, oral myths, ritual myths, image myths, performance myths, digital myths, etc. These classifications are related to each other and, at the same time, distinct from each other. With definitions, they can include all forms of myths in the contemporary context. While expanding myth classification system and increasing myth research dimensions, this classification method is of great significance in demonstrating nowness of mythology as an academic discipline, ensuring diversity of objects of research of mythology and promoting research methods of mythology.
