Abstract: In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, or the first half of the 17th century, more than 30 crops – maize, sweet potato, potato, pepper, peanut, tobacco, etc. – were introduced into China, lifting the burden of food shortage caused by rapid population growth. Centering around the local chronicles, this paper is a presentation of the authors' study on the timelines, routes, and methods of introduction and dissemination of these crops in Chuxiong. Spread of the American crops helped the rapid population growth, benefited diet structure of the locals and enhanced the living standards of peoples of Chuxiong.
