Study on Climate Suitability for the Elderly Living in the Central Yunnan City Cluster

Abstract

Abstract: In order to evaluate the degree of comfort for the seniors in the urban agglomeration of central Yunnan, this paper establishes an evaluation index system of climate suitability for the seniors, which is based on the Humidity-Temperature Index, Wind Effect Index and Air Quality Index. Through the calculation and cluster analysis of the elderly care climate suitability index for the cities in the central Yunnan urban agglomeration, 46 cities are divided into five elderly care climate zones: 1) the Yuanjiang hot valley, intensely hot in summer and warm in winter; 2) the northern thermal valley area with high temperature in summer and warm winter; 3) Alpine cool area, cool in summer is and cold in winter; 4) four-season comfort zone and southern warm area, where it is comfortable for 9 months; and 5) the central Yunnan urban agglomeration with unique advantages in climate for elderly care. It is recommended that certain financial support be given in the process of urban development.
