Abstract: Zheergen root (Houttuynia cordata Thunb), so referred to in Guizhou Province, or juaner grass elsewhere, is both edible and medicinal. Its medical application is first mentioned in documents dating back to the 3rd century B.C. and in various medical literature ever since. Due to its notable efficacy, it is continuously used in new foods and medicines. Its application can be found in documents of Eastern and Southeastern countries, but mostly Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Chongqing and other areas.
