Zoning of Geological Disasters in Chuxiong City Based on DEM

Abstract: Chuxiong is a city of frequent geological disasters-landslides and debri flows in particular-that cause great personal and property losses to the locals.Based on DEM data,this paper analyzes the relationship between slope,slope direction and geological delimit of frequent disasters with the ArcGIS technology so as to delimit the studied area prone to geological disasters.The results show1) regions of highly-frequent geological disasters-mainly distributed in Shuzuo Township,Sanjie Township,Bajiao Township,Xishelu Township and Zhongshan Township as well as most parts of Xinjie and Daguokou townships-account for 15.4% of the total area;2) regions of intermediately-frequent geological disasters-mainly distributed in Daguokou Township,Xinjie Township,Dadiji Township,Donghua Township and most parts of Ziwu Township-accounted for 36.4% of total area;3) regions of lowly-frequent geological disasters-mainly distributed in Luhe Township,Zixi Township,Donggua Township and many parts of Lucheng Township-accounted for 47.1% of the total area;and 4) regions free of geological disasterss-mainly distributed in the Chuxiong Basin,Cangling Basin and Zixu Baison-only accounted for 1.1% of the total area.
