Abstract: A comparative analysis of the precipitation characteristics of urban Qujing and urban Chuxiong from 1960 to 2019 was carried out with precipitation data of Qujing and Chuxiong and the reasons for the differences in precipitation between the two cities were analyzed. The results show: ①In terms of annual precipitation, the average annual precipitation in urban Qujing is greater than that in urban Chuxiong, but from the perspective of the overall annual precipitation change trend, Qujing shows a decreasing trend while Chuxiong shows an increasing one; the main cycle of precipitation in both Qujing and Chuxiong is 37 years; ②In terms of seasonal precipitation, the average annual precipitation in urban Qujing is greater than that in urban Chuxiong in both the rainy and the dry seasons, and the average annual precipitation in the rainy season of the two cities shows different trends, that of Qujing downward while that of Chuxiong upward. The dry season precipitation in the two cities both show an upward trend; ③In the rainy season, the two cities are affected by the monsoon to different degrees, so the precipitation is different; and ④The main reason for the difference in the precipitation in the dry season is that Qujing is affected by the Kunming quasi-stationary front and the rainy weather, while the Chuxiong dry season is subject to influences of mountain blockade and westerly airflow and is thus characterized mainly by a dry and warm weather.
