Abstract: Lei Pingyang, who is famous as a poet, has abundant “poetic” factors in his prose writing. The works in Selected Essays of Lei Pingyang are a “poetic” account of Yunnan from a “private” point of view. From the perspective of involvement of three aspects - language, spatial imagination and modernity narrative, this paper decodes the “poetic” side in Lei Pingyang's prose. Read this way, several characteristics of Lei Pingyang's prose writing surface: his writing attitude behind such “poetic” writing revealed in his revolt against and rejection of cultural “homogeneity;” and his inquiry about the value of beings at the “bottom.” Departing from there, the spiritual direction of the subject behind the “poeticization” of prose can be explored.
