Abstract: Female subject consciousness is the foundation and core concept in feminist literature and criticism. Through making a survey on the history of feminism, this essay elucidates that the core idea of female subject consciousness is that women have realized that all human beings are equal in politics, society and economy. Therefore, the female should fight for their rights to be the master of their own fate. Female subject consciousness not only inspires the female to pursue independent life, but also urges them to strive for inclusive but transcendental gender values. Based on indigenization and Westernization, Chinese critics interpret the female consciousness in diverse ways.
