Present Situation of Language Life of and Language Education Planning for Foreign Labor Workers in the Border Areas– A Case Study of Dehong

Abstract: The language ability of foreign laborers in the border areas has a direct defining effect on the quality of both their job-hunting success and life on the one hand, and positive operation of the labor import market on the other. Taking Dehong as the case study object, this paper investigates the language use of the Myanmar laborers in China by monitoring their use of Chinese and conducting statistical analysis on the correlation between their use of daily Chinese and their social psychology in terms of use of Chinese. The author points out the importance and urgency of language education planning for foreign laborers working in the border areas that involves actively and efficiently carrying out international Chinese education. This is important not only to the improvement of language proficiency of domestically employed foreign workers and the quality optimization of domestically-imported human resources, but also to the construction of the language-culture fate community in areas along the border.
