Abstract: Yang Zhengfang was a proletarian revolutionary activist of considerable achievements in Chuxiong and even the whole western and north-western parts of Yunnan Province. Even when he was a student of Zhennan Provincial Normal School (ZPNS), he enrolled dozens of members of the National Liberation Pioneers of China (NLP) and underground CPC members, who were sent all over the ZPNS regions to continue publicity efforts against the Japanese aggression for the salvation of China. Due to mis-judgment of the situation in these regions, the CPC Working Committee of Yunnan Province cut the organizational connection with Yang, resulting in loss of contact with a number of CPC members. Even in the darkest days after the Southern Anhui Incident in early 1941, Yang did not lose his faith and continued his work independently while trying to resume connection with the CPC organizations. His efforts laid a solid foundation for the later integration of the revolutionary armed forces in these regions.

Key words: Zhennan Provincial Normal School (ZPNS), Yang Zhengfang, underground CPC member, red gene, revolutionary spirit
