Abstract: In the past hundred years, collation of old local chronicles of Shanxi Province has been a fruitful endeavor. On the one hand, a large number of old local chronicles have been published through photocopying, typesetting, punctuation, annotation and other forms. On the other hand, the directory, summary, anecdotes and other related studies have been carried out with outstanding achievements. In the past two decades, as the digitization project of the ancient books widens and deepens, these old local chronicles have largely been digitized and included in the databases, making them convenient to preserve and access. From seven aspects of this effort–bibliography preparation, synopsis writing, index preparation, photocopying and proofreading, organization of anonymous works, compilation, and digitization, this article provides a full survey and presentation of efforts at home and abroad to organize such old records of Shanxi Province, reviewing some important aspects selected in retrospect of the century-long painstaking program.
