The Construction of Internal Party Regulations and Systems Running through a New Great Project: Logical Direction, Functional Interpretation and Practical Path
    LI Fuling
    2023, 38(5):  1-9.
    Abstract ( 33 )   PDF (1686KB) ( 29 )
The historical experience of party building and governance of the Communist Party of China (CPC) shows that strengthening the construction of laws and regulations within the party is an important institutional guarantee for promoting the new great project of party building. From a logical perspective, it is not only a practical demand to adhere to and strengthen the comprehensive leadership of the Party in the new era, not only a historical necessity to continuously promote comprehensive and strict governance of the Party, but also a strategic need to focus on enhancing the long-term governance capacity of the Party. From the perspective of functional interpretation, it is not only a milestone in measuring the level of the Party's movement, not only a coordinate system to manifest the principle of “centering around the people”, but also a vanguard to demonstrate the Party's exemplary role model. From the perspective of practical path, we should not only adhere to the political, targeted and effective characteristics of Party building, not only uphold the scientific, standardized, and institutionalized system of Party building, but also integrate it into all aspects, directions, and processes of Party building.

Image Turn of Patriotic Discourse from the Perspective of Visual Reconstruction
    YU Liguo, ZHAO Ping
    2023, 38(5):  10-16.
    Abstract ( 26 )   PDF (2761KB) ( 18 )
The development of digital visual elements activates the formal ideogram features contained in images, which not only gives viewers visual pleasure, but also promotes the image shift of patriotic discourse from the perspective of visual reconstruction. In essence, the iconographic turn of patriotic discourse unfolds in the tension formed by various contradictions, including the metaphorical tension of the real and the implicit, the narrative tension of figuration and abstraction, and the symbolic tension of thought and entertainment. To promote the image transformation of patriotic discourse, it is necessary to start from three aspects: activating the temporal and spatial meaning of image resources, optimizing the discourse expression of image narrative, and improving the image literacy of the subject of discourse.

An Analysis of the Chinese Character of Chinese-style Modernization
    ZHOU Zheng, LI Yinbing
    2023, 38(5):  17-24.
    Abstract ( 33 )   PDF (1674KB) ( 20 )
Chinese-style modernization mitigates the limitations of modernization development under the logical framework of Western capitalism, breaks the logical paradox that modernization equals to Western modernization, and shows the cultural foundation, practical meaning and value orientation different from those of Western modernization. Chinese-style modernization is deeply rooted in the socialist culture with Chinese characteristics. It has been shaped in the exploration and practice of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people, and has made great contributions to the development of human modernization theory and practice. Truth, Practice and Value integrate into Chinese-style modernization and highlight the Chinese style, Chinese composition and Chinese wisdom, not only promoting the construction of a strong socialist modern country, but also creating a new form of human civilization that will finally empower the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Research on the Training Mode of the Elite Teacher Plan of Local University Students
    SHI Hongxing, QIAN Bo
    2023, 38(5):  25-31.
    Abstract ( 36 )   PDF (1667KB) ( 24 )
In the light of the standards and requirements of education of normal university students, a number of problems in the training mode in local universities have been identified, such as lack of clearly defined and well-aimed objectives, homogeneous and one-sided training plans, short-sighted and utilitarian teaching practice, and rigid and inflexible education mechanism. In response to requirement of the time for high-quality development, the Elite Teacher Plan is formulated to train “four-have” teachers with whom both the Party and the people are satisfied and who will work in areas most needed by the country and the people after graduation. The local universities should, therefore, take initiative to promote teacher training mode reform so as to construct the Elite Teacher Plan training mode in compliance with needs of the time according to the new normal university student education requirements of the Elite Teacher Plan.

A Development and Value Analysis of the Student Autonomy Association of National Southwest Associated University
    LANG Qi, ZHANG Jinhui
    2023, 38(5):  32-37.
    Abstract ( 17 )   PDF (1695KB) ( 4 )
In the eight years when the National Southwest Associated University (NSAU) operated in Kunming, Yunnan Province, the Student Autonomy Association went through four development stages: initial establishment, strength accumulation, rise and glory. It gradually became a student organization under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the main leading body of the patriotic democratic movement of the students of Kunming. The activities organized by the Association formed an important part of the job of NSAU: internally it assisted running the university and served study and life of the students and, externally, it spoke on behalf of all the students to uphold the image of the NSAU as a fortress of democracy. This was especially true after the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937–45) when the Association made important contributions to the "against civil war and for democracy” rallies. The December 1st Movement, with the Association as the main leading organization, opened the prelude to the second-front struggle during the War of Liberation.

An Analysis of the “National Southwest Associated University Fever” as a Cultural Phenomenon
    WU Yuemeng
    2023, 38(5):  38-45.
    Abstract ( 17 )   PDF (1687KB) ( 6 )
After the 1980s, a large number of academic works and theses about the National Southwest Associated University (NSAU) appeared, historical materials of NSAU were excavated, and its memoirs, essays and articles were published, not to mention a dazzling array of movies, TV dramas and documentaries produced about the same theme. In short, there appeared a phenomenon of “fever” of a considerable scale. As a nostalgic product, this fever carried the dual effects of reflection and consumption, harbored the ideals and expectations of the intellectuals, and reflected their dissatisfaction with and reflection on modern higher education. Driven by consumerism, the fever has become increasingly commercialized and vulgarized. We should inherit the cultural heritage of the NSAU on the basis of a correct understanding of its history to promote healthier development of higher education.

LI Jinguo, FENG Ying, YANG Chen
    2023, 38(5):  46-56.
    Abstract ( 18 )   PDF (1717KB) ( 6 )
B.A. thesis writing is an important practical part of university education that reflects the quality of the graduates. Through a survey of B.A. theses of graduates of the years 2019 - 2023 of a local normal university of Hunan Province and the follow-up analysis and questionnaire investigation, the following major problems have been identified: inadequate coverage of heated education topics, limited literature resources, over concentration of research methods, lack of independent views, poor wording and monotonous ways of raising questions. The underlying reasons include awareness and attitude of academic research, curriculum teaching of research methods, communication with and guidance from the tutors and management system platform. To actually improve quality of B.A. theses in primary education, the following measures, therefore, should be taken: giving the students chances to take part in academic exchanges to enhance their awareness of academic research; clearly defining thesis evaluation standards and making sure that these regulations are implemented; strengthening curriculum reform of research methods to develop research ability of the students; strengthening responsibility awareness of the tutors to provide better thesis writing guidance to the students; and optimizing the management system platform and simplifying the teachers’ and students’ operation procedures.

Research on Identification Construction of the Migration and Writing of Contemporary Ethnic Minority Writers in Southwest China
    YANG Xiaoxie
    2023, 38(5):  64-71.
    Abstract ( 18 )   PDF (1675KB) ( 3 )
The identity change of the minority writers in southwest China is closely related to the historical ethnic migration and the contemporary population flow. From the historical context, more than half of the ethnic minorities living in southwest China have had large-scale migration activities, and the migration memory has become an important symbol of the identification of the group. From the perspective of current development, the flow of urban and rural population in southwest China is increasingly frequent. Ethnic minority writers, as a part of the contemporary urban population migration wave, thus form a new migration memory. The two different migration memories constructed three different cultural spaces of spiritual hometown, real hometown and urban township, and directly promoted the development trend of the identity of contemporary ethnic minority writers in southwest China from unity to pluralism.

Evolution of the Images of Wind, Flower, Snow and Moon of Dali
    XIONG Juan
    2023, 38(5):  72-78.
    Abstract ( 24 )   PDF (1678KB) ( 12 )
The image quartet - wind, flower, snow and moon - representing four specific scenes between the Cangshan Mountain and the Erhai Lake is a symbol unique to Dali. First appearing in poems of Yang Fu, a hermit of early Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), these images were used to symbolize the Dali Kingdom (937–1094. 1096–1254) that was defended by natural screens - the Cangshan Mountain on one side and the Erhai Lake on the other. In these images the distress and melancholy of the Bai people of Dali between dynasties were shown. This image quartet evolved in two directions in the Ming Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911), one being the well-known folk tales about the four images depicting the survival of the common people in distressed solemnity, and the other being the aesthetic deconstruction of them by both the Han and Bai intellectuals using the Han poetic techniques of inspiration and imitation to express intangible emotions of the authors through tangible objects. In modern society, “aesthetic need” emerged as a result of the split between the inner and outer worlds of modern people. Artists, writers, media and modern commerce, therefore, applied artistic techniques and technology to produce one after another “aesthetic illusions” to temporarily “sew up” such split. Dali is consequently subject to poetic construction for purposes of modern tourism and consumer ideology to represent it as the home for souls longing for seclusion from the madding urban world. This image quartet of wind, flower, snow and moon, or arguably an aesthetic illusion, eventually becomes a symbol and gimmick in the poetic construction of Dali to serve the audience as a form of spiritual treatment.

An Immortal Tree - On Yang Shen’s Weeping Willow and Its Influence
    CHA Zhigao, XU Shanshan
    2023, 38(5):  79-85.
    Abstract ( 21 )   PDF (1751KB) ( 16 )
Yang Shen wrote many poems on a variety of subjects in Yunnan, Weeping Willow being one of them, a poem believed by the critics to be of self-mourning, self-thinking and self-portraying sentiments. Due to Yang’s suffering and the self-thinking theme in Weeping Willow, the poem is deeply loved by generations of empathic literati, both natives and those from the heartland, and was even inscribed in the walls and stones in their houses, hotels and building facades. Later poets inspired by Yang Shen also write on similar themes, such as touchiness of changing times, praise of natural beauty, empathy for Yang’s hardship, and distress over their own predicament. Yang’s original work and those inspired by him thus elevated Weeping Willow to classic cannon by showing its lasting vitality.

On the Meaning Orientations of the Life-respect View in Guide to the Road of the Yi People
    BAI Weiwei
    2023, 38(5):  86-93.
    Abstract ( 19 )   PDF (1798KB) ( 9 )
Guide to the Road is a frequently-used and highly-influential scripture of the Yi people. It holds a view advocating respect for life that contains four meaning orientations: firstly, affirmation of the extreme beauty of meta-life, or the “origin” of life; secondly, affirmation of the daily life, or the “bursting” process of life; thirdly, exaltation of the force of life, or the “worship for vitality”; and fourthly, realization of the ultimate goal of life, or “eternity”. The study on the meaning orientations of life in Guide to the Road can not only enrich the content of aesthetic spirit of the Chinese nation, but also enlighten the modern people in their survival predicament.

From “Good to Eat” to “Good to Think of”: Food Anthropological Reflection on the Flower of Robinia Pseudoacacia in Fangcheng, Henan Province
    HE Yuan
    2023, 38(5):  94-101.
    Abstract ( 16 )   PDF (1808KB) ( 8 )
In the century following its introduction into Fangcheng, Henan Province, Robinia pseudoacacia became a good-to-eat food in the springtime due to its biological characteristics on the one hand and food shortage in the poverty stricken years on the other, obtaining its symbolic meaning through its connection with the rural society, local knowledge, historical memory and emotional projection. This case of symbol construction in current progress once again verifies that the good-to-eat and good-to-think-of aspects in food anthropology can be reconciled, and the cultural instinct to endow objects with localized meaning can eventually move the former towards the latter whilst the latter can promote the former in return. Therefore, the "should be" perspective on sinicization of food anthropology can also be presented.

A Study on Development of Culinary Tourism of Hangzhou
    YE Fangzhou
    2023, 38(5):  102-109.
    Abstract ( 43 )   PDF (1676KB) ( 29 )
To enjoy good food is an important part of touring a place. Food-themed tourism as a business, therefore, is sure to germinate and bloom, if not already. Hangzhou is fortunate in this aspect as it has rich, distinctive local culinary resources. These resources, however, are yet to make adequate contribution to Hangzhou’s tourism prosperity, a fact under continuous cyber-criticism currently. Moreover, lack of experiencing channels and heavyweight IPs makes the situation worse. After analyzing the existing problems, the article, with the Hundred-County-Thousand-Dish Project rolling out and the XIX Asiad on the horizon, makes suggestions pertinent to promoting culinary tourism of Hangzhou through industrial standardization, launch of culinary tourism products for experience and creation of food IPs, so as to provide more culinary experience chances to tourists attracted by the Asiad. In this way, the local economy in general will be boosted to make Hangzhou a demonstration zone of common prosperity.

Why the Patriotic Health Movement: Qualitative Comparative Analysis Based on Public Values
    ZENG Ni, ZHU Xingyu
    2023, 38(5):  115-123.
    Abstract ( 14 )   PDF (1768KB) ( 7 )
The core value of the patriotic health movement is to carry out public health work centered on people's health so as to effectively improve the physical fitness and quality of life of the public. Taking 16 prefectures in Y Province as the research object and based on the “strategic triangle model” of public value theory, the article uses the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method to explore the influencing factors and optimization paths of the patriotic health movement. The research finds that multiple factors jointly affect the performance of the patriotic health movement. Among them, value goals play an important role in the development of the patriotic health movement, but a single element does not constitute a necessary condition for the effective implementation of the patriotic health movement. There are three paths to achieve effective implementation of the patriotic health movement: goal driven, resource environment integration, and linkage between the internal and the external. Therefore, local governments should create a highly effective implementation path for the patriotic health movement according to local conditions, adhere to the organic combination of scientific work goals and the mass work line, and promote the construction of a healthy China.

Copper Coin Minting and Replacing Seashells with Coins in Yunnan in the Ming Dynasty - On the Dual Properties of Value of Copper Coins
    HOU Guanxiang
    2023, 38(5):  124-135.
    Abstract ( 13 )   PDF (1806KB) ( 4 )
In middle and late Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), a series of taxation and labor service reforms were carried out, putting an end to the traditional currency and financial systems while bringing about great changes to both the currency and financial systems of Yunnan. Roughly in middle 17th century when the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911) replaced the Ming, the silver-copper bimetallic standard was established in Yunnan, as it did in heartland China, forcing the two-millennium old physical currency system out of market. Rich mineral resources, especially copper reserves, of Yunnan proved helpful to development of metal currency here. Mining of copper not only played an important part in the development of Yunnan’s coin and currency, but also consolidated and developed the parallel currency system practiced in the Qing Dynasty. Based on results of previous researchers and using historical record chosen from perspectives of credibility and financiality, this paper presents an in-depth analysis of the reasons and process of coin minting of Yunnan in the Ming Dynasty and an exploration into its impact and modeling effect on Yunnan’s currency system at that time.
