Family Development and Life Satisfaction of Farmers and Herdsmen on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau-An Analysis Based on Questionnaire Survey Data
YANG Fan, WANG Zhaowei, CHEN Jie
    2024, 39(2):  2-10.
    Abstract ( 12 )   PDF (1691KB) ( 6 )
This paper discusses the relationship between family development and life satisfaction of farmers and herdsmen on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau based on the data of a survey conducted in Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The study found that life satisfaction of farmers and herdsmen was at a high level on the whole. The families of farmers and herdsmen, while maintaining a traditionally large family size, are at a relatively high level in terms of material base, population quality and social capital. The relationship between their family development and life satisfaction is close. The better the family material foundation, the better the health status of family members, the more direct family support available to individuals and interactive support between family and community neighbors, the higher their individual life satisfaction. Family development plays a positive role in improving life satisfaction of farmers and herdsmen. In the context of promoting common prosperity and rural revitalization, we should not only continue improving people's livelihood in the agricultural and pastoral areas on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, but also work together to promote family development, so that families can play their due and important role in satisfying the needs of farmers and herdsmen for a better life.

    Information “Patching” in Qualitative Research
    LIU Wei, CHEN Chen
    2024, 39(2):  11-18.
    Abstract ( 9 )   PDF (1641KB) ( 4 )
To ensure that qualitative research evolves from experience to theory, information collection in field study plays the key role. Research on this evolution abounds, but that on its execution path in terms of the operation dimension is scarce. To connect experience to theoretic summarization, the ability to “patch up” information together has an important role to play. The paper argues that information “patching” in qualitative research should, in terms of methodology, return to research by actor as meant by Max Weber, contending that qualitative researchers should first build information “patching” ability in three aspects-process “patching” for the research event, theory “patching” for the research topic, and summarization “patching” for the research information-before realizing the information “patching” process in four concrete stages. The papers proceeds to analyze how a concrete qualitative research, beginning from collecting experience facts and through interaction in the process of information “patching” between experience and theory, finalizes the effect of “patching” together information of conceptualization, theorization and intellectualization.

    Abstract ( 10 )   PDF (1698KB) ( 3 )
In 1935, the young Fei Xiaotong (1910–2005), accompanied by his newlywed wife Wang Tonghui, went to Dayaoshan, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southwest China on an investigative journey. After the tragic death of his wife, he had to return to his hometown in Wujiang, Jiangsu Province. “With a broken heart never to heal,” grief-stricken Fei stayed home, trying to live his illness out. At the suggestion of his sister, he distracted himself by doing some research in Kai Xiangu Village, a brief inquiry that would later mark the genesis of his milestone work in world anthropology titled Peasant Life in China. This scholarly contribution bestowed upon the village the designation “Jiangcun,” a name to resonate in global academic circles. Over the span of seventy years till his passing, Fei revisited the village a number of times and wrote more than one hundred poems of varying length about rural development in China. Covering the long history and focusing on Kai Xiangu Village and “lives of Chinese farmers”, this study, anchored in Fei Xiaotong's rural research ideologies spanning different historical epochs, scrutinizes his poetic expressions to enhance our understanding of his journey in rural research.

The Paradox of Western-style Modernization and the Transcendence Dimension of Chinese-style Modernization-From the Perspective of the Marxist Humanology
    LIU Lin, CHEN Huasen
    2024, 39(2):  46-54.
    Abstract ( 10 )   PDF (1685KB) ( 2 )
The modernization of humans is the essence of modernization. Western modernization has strayed from this essence and is on the verge of a modernity crisis. The crisis of modernity in the West logically begins with the worship of reason and the dominance of capital value-added logic over all aspects of life. These ideas become entwined and ultimately give rise to the paradox of Western-style modernization, which is the conflict between the advancement of the times and the crisis of humanity. Marxist humanology, which argues for human characteristics, nature, and evolution from the height of historical materialism, has completely dispelled the paradoxes of Western-style modernization and is a pathological diagnosis of the problems facing Western-style modernity. Chinese-style modernization, led by the Communist Party of China, is founded in the more profound implications of Marxist humanology, follows a people-centered methodology, and forges a new and more rational modernity by utilizing capital, tying modernity and tradition together, and pursuing the all-encompassing modernization of people through a variety of initiatives. As a better way to overcome the problems facing Western-style modernity, Chinese-style modernization will, with new modernity it continues to exhibit, undoubtedly become the shared objective of all modern human civilizations.

On the Discourse System and Contemporary Significance of the Dimensions of Ecological Civilization of Chinese-style Modernization
    CHEN Xinghui
    2024, 39(2):  55-62.
    Abstract ( 12 )   PDF (1609KB) ( 6 )
The discourse system of the ecological civilization of Chinese-style modernization is an important component of the discourse system of Chinese-style modernization. It originates from the scientific ecology discourse of Marxism and the ecological discourse wisdom of fine traditional Chinese culture, and incorporates positive elements of the ecological discourse of modern western societies. Checking the discourse system of the dimensions of ecological civilization of Chinese-style modernization from the perspective of five major characteristics of Chinese-style modernization, it profoundly reflects the inner logical connection between ecological civilization building and Chinese-style modernization, highlights ecological civilization building as an important component integrating the picture under the paradigm of Chinese-style modernization, and constitutes a section of the ecological dimension of the integral movement process of Chinese-style modernization. Demonstration of this discourse system can, therefore, play the pivotal roles of building national consensus, clarifying ecological solution logic, and enhancing international discourse power.

    JIANG Yingge, ZHOU Bowen
    2024, 39(2):  63-70.
    Abstract ( 12 )   PDF (1773KB) ( 12 )
Promotion of children's health has always been a common concern of the government, the society and the academia. This paper uses data of 2020 from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) to explore the influence of income inequality on children's health in the rural areas. The findings indicate that income inequality has a substantial detrimental effect on the health of rural children when measured by the county-level Gini coefficient, and this impact decreases with the increase of household income ranking. Relative income, as measured by the Kakwani Index, also has a significant negative impact on rural children's health. Robustness test shows that the estimation results in this paper are reliable. The findings from the heterogeneity analysis indicate that income inequality has significant negative impact on the health of males and children of school age. Therefore, measures including increasing the income of low-income families, allocating medical resources rationally, improving the social psychological counseling mechanism, and paying attention to strengthen health awareness are suggested as solutions.

    LI Xiaofan, DING Hua
    2024, 39(2):  71-78.
    Abstract ( 7 )   PDF (1734KB) ( 2 )
Focusing on listed A-share companies in China's western region from 2013 to 2022, this study employs a bidirectional fixed-effect model to empirically analyze the nonlinear relationship between tax refunds and corporate green innovation. The findings reveal an inverted U-shaped relationship between tax refunds and corporate green innovation, indicating that tax refunds effectively stimulate green innovation within a moderate range. Heterogeneous analysis demonstrates that the impact of tax refunds is significantly greater for companies with low financing constraints and large asset sizes compared to those with high financing constraints and small asset sizes. Moreover, the influence of tax refunds on non-state-owned enterprises is more pronounced compared to that on state-owned ones. The research conclusions can provide theoretical insights and practical implications for the government in formulating tax refund policies and promoting corporate green innovation.

    HE Yanjie
    2024, 39(2):  98-104.
    Abstract ( 2 )   PDF (1724KB) ( 0 )
Capable of improving popular intelligence and skills, vocational and technical education can alleviate poverty and prevent its return. Based on the literature research and the logical deduction of economic theory, the supply of vocational and technical education can have a significant positive impact on prevention of poverty return. From the micro-individual level, vocational and technical education can improve the intelligence and skills of poor workers, create worker effect and allocation effect, and increase the value of human capital, which can play a great role not only in enhancing economic capacity and increasing labor productivity to provide opportunities for upward mobility but also in increasing the participation rate and wage level of non-agricultural labor to get more economic income and social resources. Thus it can ultimately improve the ability of blocking poor workers from returning to poverty. From the perspective of social regional economic development, vocational and technical education can enhance self-development ability of underdeveloped areas by improving their current human capital stock, increasing flow, and optimizing structure. On the other hand, increasing supply of vocational and technical education can more effectively allocate educational resources, promote economic growth and social development in underdeveloped areas, so as to ultimately enhance the ability of underdeveloped areas to prevent poverty return.

LI Yuanyuan, LIU Hongji, LI Rui
    2024, 39(2):  105-113.
    Abstract ( 17 )   PDF (1616KB) ( 9 )
Digital transformation of higher education evaluation is an important trend of higher education evaluation reform in the new era. In light of its aims to promote the deep integration of digital technology and higher education evaluation, upgrade comprehensive man-machine coordination, break through the limitation of time and space of traditional education evaluation, and create a new form and model of education evaluation, it is the natural choice of higher education evaluation under the digital background. In view of this, it should be guided by four logics: 1) people-orientation is its ideological logic, which lays the concept foundation; 2) innovative value content is its professional logic, which provides it with standard choice; 3) data factor driving is its technical logic, which provides strong support; and 4) multi-subject participation is its system logic, which provides a solid guarantee. However, in the era of rapid technological advancement, digital transformation of higher education evaluation also encounters challenges in its ideological basis, professional standards, technical support and institutional guarantee. Therefore, it is necessary to adhere to human-machine integration by changing ideological concepts, train data personnel by enriching evaluation content, strengthen technical review to avoid data security risks, and enhance multi-subject digital literacy to achieve evaluation interconnection so as to ensure the smooth transformation of higher education evaluation.

Based on maritime history, it explores the historical development of China in the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911). There is some writing about Yunnan in the book that mainly analyzes the geopolitical characteristics of Yunnan from the Yuan to Ming Dynasties (1271-1644), the connection between the Lanyu Case and Yunnan in the early Ming Dynasty, Han migration from the heartland to populate Yunnan, implementation of the chieftain system and other governance measures in Yunnan. Equal attention is given to frontier governance in Yunnan in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) with focus on suppression of the rebellion of the three vassal states during the reign of Emperor Kangxi, the reform of replacing local chieftains with officials appointed by the central government during the reign of Emperor Yongzheng, and governance of Yunnan by Chen Hongmou (1696-1771). Ueda Nobu wrote the historical characteristics of Yunnan and related historical events with a grand vision, not without novel views even though some of the views are one-sided and thus worth rethinking.

LIU Chang, LIN Zihan, SONG Yang
    2024, 39(2):  122-129.
    Abstract ( 9 )   PDF (1685KB) ( 10 )
As an important form in the integration and development of culture and tourism, cultural tourism performing arts have gradually become an important carrier for the inheritance and development of ethnic cultural heritage and the urbanization of ethnic areas by virtue of their distinctive presentation of regional culture. By analyzing the core cultural tourism performing arts production Dreaming back to the Solar Calendar-Source of Fire of the Chuxiong Yi Torch Festival 2023 in China, this study finds that the cultural tourism performing arts have realized the reshaping of culture and tourism through the inner integration and outer packaging of “national symbols”. The cultural tourism performance realizes the reshaping of culture and tourism through the internal integration and external packaging of “national symbols”, and constructs the identity of “national cultural identity” through the cultural perceptions of “sensory stimulation”, “emotional resonance” and “cultural identity”. This case points out an effective direction for the casting of Chinese national community consciousness. However, from the perspective of reflection, as a performing arts activity with entertainment genes, attention should be paid to protecting the originality of national culture and avoiding the “loss of words” of national core culture under the “tourists’ gaze”.

On Stock and Circulation of Biographies of Monks in the Han Areas in the Jin and Tang Dynasties-Centering around Comparison of Historical Chronicles and Buddhist Scriptures
    LIU Jing
    2024, 39(2):  137-146.
    Abstract ( 4 )   PDF (1640KB) ( 2 )
Biographies of monks in the Han areas created in the Jin and Han Dynasties (265-907) belong to the category of “biographies of northern figures,” an analogy to “biographies of the western regions,” in terms of classification standards. They serve as important evidence for organizing historical literature regarding middle-ancient Buddhist history and culture of China. These biographies included in both historical chronicles and Buddhist scriptures, though duplicate, confusing or unverifiable to varying degrees, can provide us with comparatively reliable lists of related literature according to their different academic and theoretic perspectives. By comparing these lists, and then comparing them against catalogues of Tripittaka, Dunhuang Treasures Directories and other supplemented lists, it is possible to obtain the system status, aggregate number and information on both lost and existing volumes of these biographies. In addition, biographies appearing in both kinds of lists, thanks to painstaking efforts of Buddhist scholars in the Tang Dynasty, can be deemed as true and complete. Studying their distribution from the perspective of classical bibliography can help gain a comprehensive view of the Buddhist literature and history to further promote cultural and historical studies.

    GAN Feiyun
    2024, 39(2):  156-160.
    Abstract ( 6 )   PDF (1603KB) ( 2 )
Based on research in various forms, this article attempts to sum up the image positioning situation of south Anhui cuisine, pointing out three existing problems-unclear definition, inaccurate orientation, characteristic dishes only but without overall image. In light of the current status of industrial development of south Anhui cuisine, the author first argues that more accurate definition and designation are necessary. Secondly, the south Anhui cuisine story should be told in a more effective and attractive way to enhance both its popularity and influence. Furthermore, more brand-name dishes should be created and more talents cultivated to inherit the traditional cooking techniques. Thirdly, the paper contends that health preservation should be pinned down as the guiding direction for south Anhui cuisine and, therefore, attention should be paid to medicinal effect, nutrition, materials and other aspects to establish fame and image of south Anhui cuisine.
