    HE Weiquan
    2022, 37(6):  1-9.
    Abstract ( 18 )   PDF (1672KB) ( 9 )
Answering to missions of the time, modern universities emerged. Universities of different eras, therefore, have five missions: answering to themes of the era, serving needs of the era, bringing up talents for the era, coloring the era, and advancing the era. In the past century, universities of China underwent evolutions of different eras, from opening the door to introduce the western culture, learning from the Soviet mode, optimizing and making adjustment in the opening era, to the current high-quality development of the new era. “Characteristics” of universities of China in the new era are typically and best demonstrated in five aspects: their adherence to the guiding position of Marxism, their adherence to the leadership of the Party in all respects over the education cause, their running universities deep in Chinese soil, their advocacy of ethics as the pillar of education, and their maintenance of a dedicated faculty well versed in clarifying doubts, passing on knowledge and personifying ethical examples. Bringing up a new generation of firm Marxists, forging a solid stronghold of leadership of the Party, doing a good job in upholding right ethical standards and styles of the teaching faculty, making core technological breakthroughs, constructing a philosophy and social science system with Chinese proprietorship-these are the missions and responsibilities of universities of China in the new era.

On Culture of Yang Shen's Family Customs and Its Contemporary Value
    ZHAO Dan, HONG Zhi
    2022, 37(6):  17-23.
    Abstract ( 60 )   PDF (1701KB) ( 10 )
In the history of cultural development of China, the fame of Yang Shen (1488-1559) and his family lasted for a century. This unusual family notability can be closely attributed to their fine family customs. Observing the four-stress doctrine of Lady Xiong, Yang Shen and all his family members followed the individual-family-country-society self-development path, always prioritizing the self-disciplinary practice in terms of individual and family accomplishment. When disciplining himself, he took “righteousness,” “honesty,” “loyalty” and “benevolence” as the pillars of morality while advocating “industriousness” and “thrift” as common qualities when disciplining his family members. In terms of serving the country and the society, he required that all his family members serving public office be clean and stand principles in matters concerning national interest and people's welfare. Thus being clean officials serving for interest of both the people and the country became a part of his family customs. More than effectively nurturing the core socialist values, fine spiritual and cultural elements contained in customs of Yang Shen and his family can develop the clean working style among the Party's leading cadres. For this reason, they can shed helpful light on the construction of socialist family civilization with Chinese characteristics in the new era.

Culture of Family Customs Revealed in Zhaobi of the Bai Folk Houses and Their Inheritance
    YANG Huan, YANG Guocai
    2022, 37(6):  24-29.
    Abstract ( 16 )   PDF (1535KB) ( 5 )
Zhaobi is a unique design of the Bai residential architecture. The Bai believe that the spirit of the whole house resides with zhaobi, so they inscribe lines outlining their family customs on these walls. These inscriptions best represent the most honored points of family customs and civilized conduct of the Bai: be clean and live a clean life; restrain yourself in social life; care for the elderly and the young; have a harmonious family; observe your filial and fraternal duties; follow ritual practices; and comply with lofty, noble moral standards. It is necessary that we, in the new era, explore in depth the cultural connotation of fine Bai family customs and inherit them to cultivate love for both family and country; continuously expand inheritance channels for such fine family customs to enhance their contemporary value; and stress the importance of inheritance and education of family customs to provide suitable cultural soil for such fine family customs to grow.

On Confucianism Education in Yao'an Prefecture in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and Its Influence
    HOU Guanxiang
    2022, 37(6):  30-38.
    Abstract ( 16 )   PDF (1746KB) ( 56 )
Yao'an, a county (a prefecture in the ancient times) of a long history and splendid cultural heritage, is regarded by many as half the volume of the history of Yunnan Province. It was nevertheless virtually oblivious to influence of the Confucian culture prior to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) when the circulating official system was practiced here and schools and libraries, governmental and non-governmental, were established to offer Confucianism education. It was the preliminary stage of local Confucianism education. Paying greater attention to the preaching effect of Confucianism, rulers of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) expanded scope of Confucianism education by 1) injecting funds to restore and improve governmental schools established in the previous Ming Dynasty; 2) promoting, to rapid and notable effect, non-governmental education bodies; and 3) further developing the libraries set up in the Ming Dynasty. It is, therefore, reasonable to argue that in Yunnan Confucianism education emerged in the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368), took roots in the Ming Dynasty and grew in depth in the Qing Dynasty. More than producing a large number of talents, dissemination and development of Confucianism education of the Ming and Qing dynasties made far-reaching impact on both cultural fusion and ethnic integration.

On Educational Resources Configuration in the “Zhennan Normal Education Zone” and Its System Evolution
    LI Jinlian
    2022, 37(6):  39-48.
    Abstract ( 15 )   PDF (1592KB) ( 5 )
On June 2, 1936, the Yunnan Provincial Education Department, pursuant to directions of the Ministry of Education, divided the whole province into six normal education zones (NEZ), among which was the Zhennan NEZ that later created Zhennan Provincial Normal School (ZPNS). This could not have succeeded without great contribution from its creator Zhang Zuyin, whose significance in the history of normal education of Chuxiong has been largely neglected. Right prior to inauguration of ZPNS, Zhang was nominated by the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of China (1912-1949) as a Chinese representative to the Sino-British Commission of Boundary between Yunnan and Burma. Until then, development of normal education of Chuxiong had been restricted as the task was assumed by Kunming the provincial capital. Adjustment in educational resources configuration of the Zhennan NEZ changed this, a change that was to lay a solid foundation for the later normal education system reform of Chuxiong by cultivating adequate teaching talents for Chuxiong and even west Yunnan.

    Abstract ( 37 )   PDF (1488KB) ( 32 )
The discourse of socialism with Chinese characteristics was gradually systematized in the process of constant formation and improvement of practice of the Chinese-style modernization. This practice is of decisive significance to the construction of the discourse of socialism with Chinese characteristics, as it fundamentally defines the inherent prescriptiveness and intrinsic characteristic of the latter. Moreover, it fundamentally points out the basic approach to constructing discourse of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Firstly, the principal status of the people in the practice of the Chinese-style modernization should be given earnest attention. Secondly, the guiding significance of important issues in the practice of the Chinese-style modernization should be deeply strengthened. Exploring the process of this practice, therefore, is of global significance.

    Abstract ( 16 )   PDF (1638KB) ( 5 )
New media, represented by the Internet, are gradually becoming the information hub and public opinion magnifier, exposing universities to impact of multiple thoughts, which are more difficult for the educators to “guard against” when theory still fails to conform completely with reality. Aiming at changing traditional ideas and innovating discourse system, universities should take the following revolutionary measures: making university courses more inspiring and attractive by enriching teaching content; constructing multi-dimensional education pattern by employing more education vehicles; and consolidating the guarding line by improving the protective mechanism, etc. Only in this way can university educators hold firm the discourse power and the ideological initiative by taking the ideology high ground.

Natural Law, Ritual Respect and Past Reverence- On Traditional Origin of Liang Shiqiu's Literary Theory and Criticism
    SHI Xibin
    2022, 37(6):  74-78.
    Abstract ( 28 )   PDF (1755KB) ( 9 )
Liang Shiqiu (1903-1987), a “New Moon” literary theoretician, constructed his theory trinity - theory of prudent morality, theory of reasonable emotion and theory of literary discipline -based on the theory of human nature. Both his literary theory and criticism, therefore, show prudence, conservativeness, restraint and discipline. Although directly influenced by ideas of neo-humanists like Irving Babbitt, Liang's theory, when examined in depth, can be traced back to traditional Chinese literary theory and culture. For example, his advocacy of natural law, ritual respect and past reverence is in conformity with Confucianism and neo-humanism, as both demonstrate inheritance and innovation of tradition.

YANG Fuwang, ZHANG Xiaoqiong, YUE Jinfang, PENG Ximei
    2022, 37(6):  86-92.
    Abstract ( 19 )   PDF (1776KB) ( 5 )
Shiyang, an ancient town that first saw its prosperity because of salt, was listed among the first batch of 3 towns of historical and cultural heritage by the Yunnan provincial government in 1995. The white salt wells (Shiyang) were first mined before the 3rd century B.C. In the Han dynasties (202 B.C. – 220 A.D.), official salt administration was installed there. The Yi and the Bai were the first to develop Shiyang before the so-called three big families of white salt wells entered. On the one hand, immigrants and locals of the same surnames or from the same areas lived together. On the other hand, people of different surnames lived together and dispersed to area surrounding the wells. So the Han and other people of minority ethnic groups lived in close vicinity, triggering the phenomena of inter-influence, co-existence and mutual development among cultures of the minority ethnic groups, the heartland, the locals and the immigrants.

    Abstract ( 23 )   PDF (1675KB) ( 10 )
“Color composition” is one of the most important basic courses in environmental design. The constitutive teaching model for this course was first introduced from Japan in the 1970s, but it is still used today. After decades, drawbacks of this teaching model begin to surface, making it unsuitable to the new talent training requirements. These drawbacks, such as disconnection between the course and the subsequent professional courses, inadequate learning effect, and lack of professional features, cannot be eliminated unless the teaching model for “color composition” is reformed in teaching objectives, teaching methods, evaluation system and other aspects.

    MA Jiming, ZHANG Jingxiang
    2022, 37(6):  132-138.
    Abstract ( 23 )   PDF (1611KB) ( 7 )
Natural, humanitarian and diversified, rural tourist destinations can attract a lot of visitors. Due to limited development level and poor accessibility, most of these destinations attract only a small number of visitors. These off-the-beaten-track tourist attractions become niche destinations and their sustainable development is in doubt. Jiuwuji, Luoping County is one of them. Eco-protection policies, restricted accessibility, poor accommodation capacity and lack of marketing effort and other factors make it difficult for it to maintain continuous development. To overcome these difficulties, countermeasures and implementation paths are proposed, including identifying and highlighting unique tourist scenes, displaying elements of ethnic folk culture, commercializing tourist operations, cultivating signature rural tourism traits, constructing unified pan-area rural tourist network, and resorting to help from Internet+ publication and marketing platforms while strictly complying with eco-protection policies. Only in this way can sustainable development of these niche rural tourist destinations be guaranteed.
